A hundred of local communities have blocked the road to the IDX-listed nickel miner PT International Nickel Indonesia (Inco)?s plant in Sorowako complex, South Sulawesi to protest its plan to fire staff, the company official said.

Spokesman Jannus Siahaan said in Jakarta that the protester did not include Inco?s workers and the operations at its plant were not affected the protest.

Inco will shed 87 managerial-level employees stationed at site and Jakarta office. ?The restructuring program is part of the measures taken by the firm to maintain competitiveness in the long run,? Siahaan said on July 28. (bernard)
