More than 100 protesters from East Kalimantan on Thursday blockaded a road in the coalmining site of PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC), disrupting coal transportation for over one hour, local daily Kaltim Post reported.
The demonstrators were mainly members of mass organization Pancasila Youths Regiment and Rantau Pulung people from three villages in Sangatta district where KPC operates a huge coalmine.
Their action caused dozens of KPC?s dumptrucks stop operation for one hour.
The demonstrators demanded the KPC management to fulfill its promise of repairing roads their villages together with logging firm PT Porodisa. They complained that their roads had been damaged mainly because trucks of the companies passed through them.
KPC?s conservation and regional development manager Wijayono met with the protesters and told that he had yet to discuss with Porodisa officials about their complaints. (*)
