A non-govermental organization called the people's resistance front (FPR) and hundreds of residents in Jayaloka village in Lubuk Linggau regency, South Sumatera have threatened to occupy Pertamina's oil and gas exploration site in the area, local newspaper Sriwijaya Post reported on Tuesday.
The threat was made after Pertamina did not heed the local residents' demand to provide a compensation for the pollution caused by the company's operation. According to the residents, Pertamina's operation has caused a serious pollution to their farming areas.
"If the compensation is not paid, FPR on the behalf of the local people will have no choices but to sue Pertamina," FPR's coordinator, Wahisun Walls Wahid, said. (*)
