Protesting villagers agree to end KPC blockade

The protesting villagers in Sangatta area, East Kalimantan, agreed on Wednesday to end its occupation of coal mining giant PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) Pit A and B mining sites, the local Jaya Post daily reported.

The paper quoted East Kutai district administration spokesman Rudy Basrun Gamas as saying that the protesting villagers finally agreed to negotiate.

He said that KPC operation had returned to normal.

Some 100 villagers started to occupy the KPC sites and took over 60 heavy equipments on Sunday to demand KPC to pay compensation for the villagers land acquired by the company in the past. (*)
