PT. Aneka tambang Tbk: Monthly exploration report for the month of August 2004

(Jakarta, September 8, 2004) ? PT Antam Tbk (ASX - ATM; JSX, SSX - ANTM) is pleased to lodge the August monthly exploration report in accordance with the Jakarta Stock Exchange listing rules. Antam continued exploration during August 2004 focusing activities on laterite nickel, gold, and bauxite. The total cost in August 2004 for exploration was Rp3.1 billion. Exploration activities were conducted by Antam?s own exploration unit, Unit Geomin. In August 2004, Unit Geomin also conducted joint gold exploration activities with Japan Oil, Gas, and Metals Corporation (JOGMEC) at Flores and Cikotok-Banten.

NICKEL

Nickel exploration was conducted in Buli-Halmahera, Semingit-Halmahera and Southeast Sulawesi. Nickel exploration in Buli included 7,635m of infill drilling at Blocks A, Tanjung Buli, Pakal and Sangaji with a total cost of Rp981.9 million. To support the Gebe mine, exploration was conducted at nearby Semingit with total of 3,694m of infill drilling costing Rp676.4 million. Antam will continue infill drilling at Buli-Halmahera and Semingit.

Antam also made technical geological tests to support mining activities.The locations for nickel exploration drilling in Southeast Sulawesi were Tapunopaka, Mandiodo and Bahubulu. In August, drilling of 4,505m occured with a total cost of Rp1.1 billion. These activities are intended to support the ferronickel smelter plants at nearby Pomalaa. Antam will continue nickel exploration drilling in the coming month on these areas.

GOLD

Antam conducted detailed geological mapping activities, which includes rock sampling at Mranggu-East Java. The activities cover an area of 95 hectares. Preparation was underway to conduct test drilling activities of 1,000m.

Antam began exploration activities in cooperation with JOGMEC at Flores and Cikotok-Banten.

Meanwhile at areas around the Pongkor gold mine, Antam conducted technical geological tests to support mining activities at Ciurug and Ciguha. Drilling of 335m was performed in these areas with total cost of Rp88.4 million. Further geological tests will be conducted at Pongkor.

BAUXITE

Bauxite exploration was performed at two of Antam?s mine sites, Tayan-West Kalimantan and Wacopek-Riau. The test pitting over a 25m x 25m gride in Tayan is intended to increase the resource classification to measured. In August 2004 test pitting in Tayan reached 1,653m with a total cost Rp141.8 million.

The exploration in Wacopek area is intended to enhance bauxite resource around the mine site. Test pitting reached 305.5m with a total cost Rp37.9 million.

Antam will continue test pitting in Tayan and Wacopek in the coming month.(*)
