In the face of its privatization program, the coal mining company PT Bukit Asam will soon put its non-mining units under separate management, its public relations chief, Suharisman, disclosed here Wednesday.
Suharisman said the units to be given up would include the company's hospital, its educational foundation, the briquette production unit, and the Ombilin coal-mining unit.
He explained that the Ombilin coal-mining unit would also be given up because it has only a small amount of coal reserves left.
He pointed out that the company is expected to relinquish its unproductive units to improve the value of Bukit Asam shares at the stock market.
Meanwhile, head of Bukit Asam`s hospital, Asrul Sani, told Antara on a separate occasion that he had not been informed of the company's plan to give up the hospital unit.
He said Bukit Asam has been providing the hospital with an annual budget of Rp 7 billion to purchase medicines and medical equipment, as well as to pay its medical personnel.
Asrul reported that his hospital has a team of 16 doctors, composed of 11 general practitioners, 2 dentists, 2 pediatricians and an internist. (*)
