PT CPI builds 4km-canal

PT Caltex Petroleum Indnesia (CPI) is building a four-kilometer canal in the town of Duri, riau to curb floods, which have been affecting residents in Balikalam, West Duri and Babussalam for years.
Nursyahbani Saleh, the coordinator for community development, said last week, the construction of the canal, which costs the company about Rp 250 million was scheduled for completion in 25 days.
The local residents have been suffering from flood problems for many years . When heavy rains hit the area for just one to three months, about 50 houses in the area would be flooded. The water level often reaches three meters.(*)
