PT Energi Mineral Langgeng (EML) said it had spudded its oil and gas ENC-1 well in South East Madura block, in Sumenep regency, East Java, Antara reported.

?The result of our survey has shown that the gas content in ENC-1 well is higher than its oil. But for its exact data, we have to wait for the drilling to be finalized. That will still take about one month,? said PT EML Commissioner Luhut B Pandjaitan, who together with other executives of PT EML came to Sumenep to witness the spudding on Tuesday.

?The ENC-1 well spudded on Tuesday is in the onshore part of the block.

He also said that his company had prepared a number of social programs to support its oil and gas business operations for people of the Madura island and especially those living in Sumenep.

?If the spudding shows positive results, then we?ll be committed to help the local government in the fields of education, health, and agriculture,? he said.

Sumenep Regent A Busyro Karim, who hosted a gathering with PT EML executives in his house in Sumenep said that he hoped the spudding would be a success. ?If it is a success then PT EML should not forget about Sumenep. EML should help develop Sumenep regency,? the regent said.

Previously, it was reported that PT EML had conducted information campaign for the surrounding community on its plan to start its 2D seismic survey in February in South East Madura block, onshore/offshore East Java. The survey covers around 550 kilometers of land in the regencies of Sumenep, Situbondo and Probolinggo

PT EML is the operator with 100 percent participating interest in the block. The block was awarded to Energy Mineral in May, 2009. In the first three years of commitment, the company is to drill one exploration well. (*)
