PT Energi Sengkang will soon carry out a 230-kilometer gas piping project from Sengkang to Makassar through Pare-Pare -- all in South Sulawesi -- with total investment of US$120 million, according to a company executive.
Energy Sengkang president Paul Edward said the piping line would transport gas from Sengkang gas field in South Sulawesi to industries and households in the South Sulawesi capital of Makassar.
"If all the preparations are ready, we will realize the project in near future," Edward told a meeting with officials of the South Kalimantan administration, which was also attended by Minister of Regional Infrastructure Erna Witoelar.
Edward explained that the piping project had long been planned but had not been carried out because of political and social changes in the country in recent years.
He noted that the gas reserves currently managed by PT Energy Sengkang would be enough for 25 years of consumption.
Currently, the gas produced by the company is consumed by a power plant in Sengkang, Wajo district in South Sulawesi.
Edward said that the company was still studying the technicalities of the project, such as the size of the pipes and the gas pressure.
PT Energi Sengkang is a joint venture company, with majority ownership by Energy Equity of Australia. (*)
