PT Freeport convoy attacked by, three injured

A convoy of gold and copper giant PT Freeport Indonesia was attacked on Friday by what the police described as armed criminal group, injuring three people, Kompas.com reported.
The news portal said that the incident occurred at around 10 a.m. at Mile 60 of PT Freeport?s mining road in Tembagapura District, Mimika Regency, Papua Province. The three injured were immediately rushed to local hospital.
Papua Police Spokesman Ahmad Mustofa confirmed the shooting incident. He said it was perpetrated by a criminal armed group led by Sabinus Waker believed to have been involved in a series of shooting incidents in the area recently.
Meanwhile, PT Freeport Spokesman Riza Pratama told Petromindo.com that the main mining road would be temporarily shut down until it is declared safe by the security force.
