PT Freeport resumes Grasberg mine operation

Gold and copper giant PT Freeport Indonesia resumes today activities at its Grasberg open pit mine in Papua Province.

PT Freeport Spokesman Riza Pratama said on Wednesday that the Grasberg open pit mine was only closed down on Tuesday as a form of solidarity following the death of a worker at a mine accident in the previous day. ?Today, the operation returns to normal,? he said.

Investor Daily reported earlier that the Grasberg mine has been suspended by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources since Monday following the mine accident.
