PT Gulf allocates $1 million for community development

PT Gulf Indonesia Resources has allocated at least Rp 10 billion (more than US$1 million) to finance its community development projects in South Sumatra and Jambi provinces during the past two years, Sriwijaya Post reported on Tuesday.

Teguh Imanto, the manager for the company?s community development department said on Monday that the oil company which operates oil concessions in both province used 85 percent of the funds to finance community development projects in South Sumatra and the other 15 percent to support similar projects in Jambi.

"The funds are aimed at improving the welfare of the people especially those living near the company?s production areas," he said when the company presented scholarships to elementary, junior and senior high schools in Sungaililin district, Muba.

Two years ago, the company established its community development department to coordinate and mange the growing community development projects for its operation in the two provinces. (*)
