PT Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of the state-owned electric utility PLN, said it plans to build a number of power generating facilities by 2006.

The company will set aside US$1.2 billion for the projects aimed at coping with possible shortage in power supply, its president Firdaus Akmal said here last weekend.

Akmal said the country's power requirement grows by 10 per cent on the average per year.

The projects include gas steam fired power generating plants, hydroelectric generating plants, geothermal power generating plants, and diesel power plants.

The projects will be financed by international financial agencies, Akmal said.

He said PT Indonesia Power will also expand the generating capacity of its existing plants starting next year. (*)
