PT KJM allegedly involved in illegal mining activities

PT Kurnia Jaya Manunggal (KJM) which is also often called PT Krista Margadata Utama (KMU) has been allegedly involved in illegal coal mining activities in an area located in East Senakin district in South Kalimantan, a local newspaper reported on Monday.

Banjarmasin Post reported that the company was believed to have carried out illegal coal mining activities within the coal concession owned by PT Arutmin Indonesia (AI) since the coal producer terminated the coal exploration contract awarded to PT KJM in the middle of January, last year.

The newspaper said that Jakarta-based PT KJM continued exploration works in Arutmin?s area despite the end of its contract, with production of thousands of tons of coal a day.

In a recent investigation, an anti-illegal coal mining team of the local police found eight heavy mining equipment at the area. The heavy equipment believed to be owned by PT KJM have been seized by the team. (*)
