Spokesman for PT Adaro Indonesia, Edy Suwignnyo said on Saturday that other 40 workers had been laid off as part of disciplinary measures imposed on the workers who were involved in the strike, which hit the company last week.
According to PT PPN, which handles Adaro?s coal mining at Tabalong regency, South Kalimantan, the workers who were found to have incited the friends to take part in the strike, would receive a punishment such as being dismissed, laid off and other more lighter disciplinary measure.
Thousands of workers went on strike last week as a protest against the attack by a group of unidentified men against the leader of the labor unit at the company, AM Janatha.
PT Adaro Indonesia declared a force majeure to its buyers on Monday, last week after its main contractor made a similar declaration. The strike has caused a drop in the coal production to 80 percent.
Normally Adaro produces about 60,000 tons of coal per day. (*)
