PT Sumatera Powerindo and the Lampung provincial administration on Monday signed a cooperation agreement to build a steam power plant of 2x50 megawatts in the province using coal as its fuel, Antara news agency reported.

Lampung governor Oemarsono and PT Sumatra director Amir Sunarko signed the accord in Bandar Lampung on Monday.

Oemarsono said the project was planned for completion in 18 months.

Under the agreement, Lampung will facilitate coal supply for the power plant, land clearance and the analysis concerning environmental impact (Amdal).

The governor said PT Sumatera was one of several foreign and Indonesian investors who had expressed interest to build power plants in Lampung.

The province has experienced serious power shortage over the past months. (*)
