The local Banjarmasin Post reported that the agreement was made during a meeting between the company and the local government following a demonstration recently by hundreds of people from the Senakin and Pudi villages demanding work at PT Thiess.
The paper quoted Kotabaru Regent Sjachrani Mataja as saying that the company would provide a 6-month training program to the villagers, and when the company needed additional workers it would hire the already trained villagers.
He added PT Thiess would also provide a certain amount of allowance to the villagers joining its training program.
Sjachrani said that the administration planned to immediately inform the villagers about the result of the meeting with PT Thiess.(*)
