PT Timah rejoins ITRI

PT Timah Tbk, the world's largest integrated tin producer, is rejoining ITRI Ltd, formerly the International Tin Research Institute, Reuters reported

""We are delighted that PT Timah is rejoining ITRI. Ultimately, we are all working towards the same goal, which is a vibrant, sustainable tin market," David Bishop, Managing Director of ITRI Ltd and its sister company Tin Technology Ltd, said on Friday.

Bishop said ITRI aims to increase demand for tin through a long-term strategy of research, development and commercialisation.

PT Timah withdrew from ITRI two years ago, as ITRI's research activities were mainly concentrated in London. ITRI is a globally based based organisation involved in the research, development and marketing of tin-based technologies.

ITRI and Tin Technology currently have a global membership of around 100 companies. Producers and smelter members include Malaysia Smelting Bhd, Sons of Gwalia Ltd, Thailand Smelting and Refining, Metallo-Chimique International NV and Minsur SA.(*)
