PT Timah seeking partners to develop underground coal mining

Indonesia-listed tin producer PT Timah Tbk is seeking partners and technologies to develop underground mining system at its subsidiary, the coal miner PT Tanjung Alam Jaya that secured concessions in South Kalimantan.

?There are differences on geological structure between Sumatra and West Kalimantan. We are looking for partner and technology to develop underground mining in West Kalimantan,? President Director PT Timah Wachid Usman told Petromindo.com.

He added that a number of investors, including from China have offered its technologies to develop the underground mining system to produce coal from Tanjung Alam Jaya.

Tanjung Alam Jaya targeted to produce some 800,000 tons of coal in 2012.

According to data, the first coal miner in Indonesia that applied underground mining system to produce coal is the state-owned coal miner PT Bukit Asam which has done that since years ago on its concessions in Ombilin.

PT Timah has diversified its business from tin to also producing coal through its subsidiary PT Timah Investasi Mineral which operates acquired coal mining company in Kalimantan that is producing high rank coal of 6500 - 7000 kcal/kg cv with sulfphur content under 1 percent.
