Indonesian state tin mining company PT Tambang Timah has filed a lawsuit against the Defense Ministry over some US$1.87 million in unpaid rent, according to documents filed with the central Jakarta district court.
The suit, the documents show, was over Rp 15.52 billion (US$1.87 million) in unpaid rent for a Jakarta property used by the defense ministry for the past 49 years.
According to the documents obtained by AFX-Asia, an AFP financial news subsidiary, Tambang Timah named as co-defendants the military cooperative and the military savings fund, which also occupy the office building and land.
PT Tambang Timah said in the documents that the current Defense Ministry offices lie on property owned by NV Billiton Maatschappij, the name under which Tambang Timah used to operate before the government nationalised Dutch firms in Indonesia in the early 1950s.
It said all assets of NV Billiton Maatschappij now belong to Tambang Timah. The claim covers back rent of Rp 7.06 billion plus interest. (*)
