Jakarta - PT. Mincom Indoservices (PTMI) today announced that PT. Timah Tbk has chosen to implement a unique E-commerce Marketing Solution, a system specially developed for the company by PTMI's partner, Mitrais, Indonesia's leading software development factory.

PT Timah Tbk is pioneering the adoption of E-Commerce among Indonesia's asset intensive industries. It is the first mining operation in Indonesia to implement an E-commerce Marketing Solution, which will support the integration of the company's worldwide marketing operations. The system has been under development, using the latest development tools from Java technology and based on requirements specifically made for PT Timah Tbk. It will seamlessly integrate with the company's MIMS Open Enterprise applications, which were implemented by PTMI at Timah in 1992 and have been used ever since to efficiently manage operational activities.

According to PT Timah's Finance Director, Ali Darwin, "We recognized PTMI's leadership in the application of leading edge technology within asset intensive industry, and we independently selected PTMI's E-commerce Solution in competitive tender evaluations. This e-commerce project, providing an integrated end-to-end workflow automation solution, supports the unique process requirements of the asset intensive industry like ours."

"This E-commerce Solution by PTMI is unique because it is designed specifically for asset intensive operations such as ours. It will deliver a cost saving of at least 50% of our total marketing cost. Our aim, is to gradually shut down our worldwide offices and instead provide direct worldwide customer contact connection through the web. We believe in superior customer management. We want our customers to be able to contact us anytime, anywhere - this provides an excellent mechanism and gives them instant access to our database." Ali Darwin added.

PTMI's E-commerce marketing solution offers extensive functionality and features to cover the requirements of PT Timah Tbk. These include information services, price offer requests, web orders, web stock, request management, contract management, order management, stock management, price management, invoice management, customer management and report management.

With the introduction of an E-commerce marketing application, PT Timah Tbk will be able to proactively utilize internet technology to achieve a range of valuable benefits including:

* Integration of worldwide marketing processes, both internally and externally throughout the organization

* Improved efficiency (cost and time) of marketing operations through the use of internet technology plus the progressive centralization of the management of the marketing activities which will minimize the role of branch offices in other countries

* Improved quality of customer service through managing and documenting the entire marketing transaction into an integrated computer system

* Expanded worldwide market penetration for PT Timah Tbk via on-line product introduction and response to inquiries from prospective customers

PTMI's President Director, David Magson stated, "PTMI is positioned to lead the charge into e-commerce in asset intensive industry and allow our customers to exploit the many benefits that the e-commerce applications will deliver to them, including lower costs through transaction automation and improved productivity, due to the availability of real-time information allowing improved decision making."

"PTMI's e-commerce solution developed by Mitrais will improve PT Timah Tbk's customer relationship management by increasing responsiveness to both planned and unplanned customer requirements. E-business is set to revolutionize the way business is conducted around the world. Organizations, including PT Timah Tbk, are now faced with the challenge of how to maximize benefits from e-business, a decision that will have a direct impact on their future. PTMI's long history in providing total asset solutions to demanding industries like mining, oil and gas, utilities, transportation and continuous process manufacturing ideally positions us to understand the e-business needs of asset intensive customers," David Magson remarked.

Development began on June 12 and a partial go live will take place in early September. With a total planned implementation time of 5 months, the project is scheduled for completion in late November 2000.
