IDX-listed coal mining giant PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) said that construction of the 2x8 MW Tarahan coal-fired power plant was completed in December of last year.

With the operation of the new power plant, PTBA will no longer need the supply of electricity from state-owned power firm PT. Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) to support the Tarahan coal port in Lampung, the company said on Tuesday.

?As such as the coal unloading at the Tarahan Port can be implemented for four series of rail cars at once,? it said in a statement.

The coal-fired power plant is mainly dedicated to support PTBA?s Tarahan coal port. PTBA is currently in the process of expanding the capacity of the Tarahan port from 13 million tons per year to 25 million tons per year. The project is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2014.

The company signed on December 18 an agreement with PLN to sell the excess electricity from the Tarahan power plant (about 4-10 MW) to PLN at a price of Rp 787.20 per Kwh for a 12-month period.
