State coal mining company PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam (PTBA) said that it was optimistic it could win the tenders for the construction of four coal-fired power plants worth about US$3.5billion or about Rp 31.5 trillion in Sumatra and Madura, told Petromindo.Com on Wednesday.

?We have passed the prequalification process in the tenders,? PTBA president director Sukrisno said.

He said that the four power plants included PLTU Sumsel 8 which would have built with a capacity of 2 x 600 megawatts and with investment of about $1.4 billion; PLTU Sumsel 6, with a capacity of 2 x 300 MW and PLTU Pranap in Riau with a capacity of 2 x 300 megawatt. The two power plants will absorb investments of about $800 million. Both PLTU Sumsel 8 and Sumsel 6 are located in South Sumatra.

The fourth plant will be PLTU Madura which will be built with a capacity of 2x 200 MW at total investment of about $500 million.

Sukrisno said that the Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra-based PTBA would become the coal supplier for the four power plants.

He said that PTBA joined a consortium of several companies to take part in the tenders. In PLTU Sumsel 8 and Sumsel 6, PTBA teamed up with a Chinese company. ?PTBA has a 45 percent stake in a consortium for Sumsel 8 and 41 percent in consortium for Sumsel 6. We are major shareholders in both consortiums,? he added.

In the PLTU Pranap in Riau, PTBA is part of a consortium which comprised an Indian company Lanco Group and PT Pramapersada Nusantara, a subsidiary of PT Astra International, while in PLTU Madura, PTBA also joined a consortium in the bidding.

Sukrisno said that PTBA was also the majority shareholder in the consortium for the PLTU Pranap. ?But in the consortium for Madura power project, we are a minority shareholder because we don?t have any coal mine in the island,? he said. (giok)
