IDX-listed coal giant PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) has proposed for a 2x300 MW mine mouth coal-fired power plant project as the company seeks to expand its power plant business.
Kontan quoted PTBA Corporate Secretary Adib Ubaidillah as saying Tuesday that the proposed power plant project is still being verified by state-owned electricity firm PT PLN such as in terms of mine readiness and others. He declined to provide further details about the planned project.
Adib added that PTBA is also ready to participate in future tender of mine mouth power plant projects to be held by PLN as the company has the capacity to develop up to 5,000 MW mine mouth coal-fired power plants.
As has been previously reported, PLN plans to procure 16 mine mouth coal-fired power plants in Sumatra and Kalimantan with combined capacity of about 7,000 MW in the 2017-2026 period.
Elsewhere, Adib said that the company has yet to be able start construction of the planned PLTU Sumsel 8 mine mouth power plant project as amendment of an earlier power purchase agreement with PLN is still being finalized. (*)
