State coal mining company PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) is considering to join the tender for the construction and operation of PLTU Sumsel 9 and 10 coal fired power plants in South Sumatra, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Tuesday

?We are still assessing whethe will take part for the construction for the two power plants or only one of them,? PTBA?s president director Milawarma said.

Milawarma said the coal mining company would have an advantage in the tender because the bidder should have a coal mine as the requirment to take part in the tender process.

PLN will officially open the pre qualification tender for the two power plants on Nov. 14 until Nov.23. PLTU Sumsel 9 will have a capacity of 2x600 MW and PLTU Sumsel 10 will have capacity of 1x600 MW. The winner will operate as an independent power producer which will sell the electricity to PLN

Previously PTBA and its partner CHD won a tender for the construction of PLTU Sumsel 8 coal fired power plant which will have capacity of 2 x 260 MW. The plant worth US$1.6 billion is scheduled for operation between 2016 and 2017. (*)
