PTBA, PLN to conclude coal price negotiation this month

State coal mining company PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) hopes it will be able to decide on the price of its coal to be supplied to state electricity company PLN this February.

PTBA president director Sukrisno said in Jakarta on Monday that both companies were still divided over the price for the coal supply this year. ?The difference is normal is business as a seller, we want to get a high price, while as a buyer PLN wants to get a low price,? he told members of the Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR) during a hearing on Monday.

However, Sukrisno said that although the price had not been fixed, the supply of coal for PLN was continuing.

Intensive negotiations between the two companies? representatives were still underway to ensure both parties could get a good price for the coal supply, he said. ?We hope the agreement could be made any time soon,? he added.

Currently, PTBA supplies 8.1 million tonnes per year (MTPA) of coal to three PLN?s power plants including Suralaya in Banten, Bukit Asam in South Sumatra and Tarahan in Lampung.

PTBA plans to increase 2011 coal sales to 16.8 million tonnes from 12.9 million tonnes in 2010. Coal sold by its trading unit in 2011 will remain similar to this year's volume of 1 million tonnes, he said.

Production would reach 16.6 million tonnes in this year, including 1 million tones from its IPC mine in East Kalimantan from 900,000 tonnes in 2010. (giok)
