The coal production of state-owned mining firm PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) was poised to reach 9.7 million tons in 2004 or 97 percent of the target set at the beginning of last year, the Bisnis Indonesia newspaper reported in its Saturday edition.
The reduction in production was due to problems in Martapura, South Kalimantan.
PTBA?s company secretary Milawarman said that the bridge at the distribution line of Ogan Komering Ulu coal mine was damaged and this led to drop in the company?s production target of 10 million tons.
?We have produced only 9.7 million tons, less than our yearly target of 10 million tons. This was because of the collapse of Martapura bridge. But it (the problem) is over now,? Milawarman said in Jakarta on Friday.
For 2005, according to Milawarman, the output is projected to increase to 10.6 million tons as the production process has returned to normal followng the construction of the new bridge in Martapura. (*)
