PTBA rated high for environment protection

South Sumatra-based state coalminer PT Batubabara Bukit Asam (PTBA) obtained high rating from the provincial government for its efforts in protecting the environment around its mining operation, a report said Saturday.
The company was given ?green? rating along with 12 other companies operating in South Sumatra.
PTBA was among of the 30 companies rated by the South Sumatra provincial office of environment (Bapedalda). The rating program was made in conjunction with this year?s celebration of World Environment Day, the paper said.
Bapedalda head Sofyan Machmud said PTBA had met nearly all requirements for waste water treatment.
The office set five type of ratings including black, red, blue, green and golden. Black was the lowest rating.
PTBA, one of Indonesia?s top coal producers, operates coalmines in South Sumatra. (*)
