PTBA readies coal processing projects

IDX-listed state-owned mining company PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) said that government?s plan to revise Article 94 point (1) in Government Regulation No 23/2014 regarding Conducting Mineral and Coal Business will not negatively impact the company?s performance.

The government plans to revise the regulation that will require coal mining companies to process coal at home in order to increase its added value.

?The company has set business plan to increase the added value of coal as part of corporate development strategy to ensure company?s growth sustainability,? PTBA?s Corporate Secretary Joko Pramono said in a statement Friday.

PTBA has several coal processing projects among others coal blending at Tanjung Enim concession and Tarahan Coal Port and Coal Briquette Development Projects at Tanjung Enim (South Sumatra), Gresik (East Java) and Natar (Lampung).

The company is also preparing other coal processing projects, including coal upgrading project at Tanjung Enim. The project will process low calorific value (CV) coal to become higher CV coal and currently is under technical and economical studies. Other processing project that is under consideration is coal gasification at Tanjung Enim in cooperation with PT Pupuk Sriwijaya.
