State coal miner PT. Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam (PTBA) said that coal sales until the end third quarter of 2007 rose seven percent from last year’s sales of 7.38 million.

Output in third quarter of this year reached 2. 27 million tons of coal, slightly lower compared to the last-year period's output of 2.39 million tons. Sales reached 2.85 million tons, slightly higher from 2.6 million tons in the same quarter of last year, PTBA’s investor relation staff Juandi told Petromindo.Com on Monday.

The company’s cumulative output until the end of the third quarter declined three percent from 6.61 million tons in the corresponding 2006 period, he said.

Meanwhile, its trading units sold a total of 808,035 tons of coal in the first nine months of the year, higher from the last-year period's output of 232,592 tons. The company has three trading units, including PT Bukit Asam Prima.

PTBA plans to increase coal sales to 19 million tons in 2010, spurred by an increase in coal trading volume and production from new mine.

The company’s CEO Sukrisno said in March 2007, that coal trading volume would be increased to 2.5 million tons in 2010 from 1 million tons in 2007 and an additional 2.5 million tons would be produced to supply the proposed Bangko Tengah minemouth power plant. (denny)
