PTBA?s coal production down in Q2

State coal mining company PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam (PTBA) recorded coal production of 2.37 million tons during the second quarter of 2001, as against 2.65 million tons it produced during last year?s corresponding period, according to the data from ministry of energy and mineral resources.

The second quarter coal production was also lower than first quarter period production of 2.64 million tons.

PTBA sold most its production domestically, most of which went to state power firm PLN?s subsidiaries in Java.

PTBA, the country?s top five coal producer, operates coal mines in Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra, where most of its production comes from, and Ombilin, West Sumatra. (alex/godang)
