PTBA?s H1 coal production down

Wednesday, July 12 2006 - 04:06 AM WIB

State coal minor PT. Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam (PTBA)?s first half 2006 coal production reached 4.220 million tonnes, slightly down from last year?s first semester production of 4.350 million tonnes, director Sukrisno told Petromindo.Com on Wednesday.

He did not say the reason for the decline.

The company is targeting to produce a more than 9 million tonnes this year from its South Sumatra mine.

The company sells most of its production to PLN?s subsidiary PT.Indonesia Power that operates 3,400-MW Suralaya power plant in Banten province. PTBA and Indonesia Power are currently locked in stalled negotiation over 2006 coal prices, with the latter refused to heed to the former?s asking price. PTBA threatens to cut coal supply to Indonesia Power if the company doesn?t pay PTBA?s coal Rp.384,000 (US$42) per tonne. Indonesia Power insists that it would only pay Rp.320,000 per tonne.
