State coal mining firm PT. Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam (PTBA) willd supply between 5.5 million tons to 6.1 million tons of coal to Indonesia Power?s Suralaya power plant in Banten in 2005, slightly increased compared to this year?s supply level of 5.5 million tons, a company official said.
PTBA president Ismet Harmaini told reporters on Tuesday that PTBA is also looking to significantly increase coal price for 2005 from Rp.244,000 (US$= Rp.9,000) per ton in 2004.
He said negotiation with Indonesia Power is ongoing. He did not reveal the price PTBA was seeking, but signaled that the increase would be roughly in line with world coal price increase.
Suralaya power plant operates 3,400 MW power plant, which supplies electricity to Java-Bali grid. The plant requires 10 million tons of coal annually. PTBA, which has huge coal reserves but constrained by transportation problem, is planning to peroduce around 10 million tons next year. (alex)
