IDX-listed coal miner PT Bukit Asam (PTBA) said it is in talks with the government of Myanmar and a local partner on the potential of developing a number of coal-fired power plants with a combined capacity of 600 MW.

Corporate Secretary Joko Pramono told Petromindo.com recently that the firm expects an agreement could be inked sometimes in 2014.

"One of the key points in the negotiation is the electricity sales and purchases mechanism," said Joko in Jakarta.

Joko did not mention the investment requirement but said that in the first stage PTBA wishes to build one power plant with the capacity of 2x100 MW, and soon follow it up with the second plant of 2x200 MW capacity.
