(Mempawah, 6 February 2026) -- PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), a member of the Indonesian Mining Industry Holding MIND ID, plays a strategic role in supporting the successful development of the Bauxite–Alumina–Aluminium Processing and Refining Facility in Mempawah, West Kalimantan, through the provision of a reliable and sustainable energy supply.
As part of the national mineral downstreaming ecosystem, PTBA is responsible for ensuring the availability of energy resources (Power Solutions) to meet the operational requirements of the aluminium smelter.
This facility, which has become a vital link in Indonesia’s integrated bauxite–alumina– aluminium processing and refining supply chain, has a processing capacity of up to 3 million tons of bauxite into 1 million tons of alumina per year. Furthermore, the 1 million tons of alumina will be processed into 600 thousand tons of aluminium.
The project is also expected to serve as a key driver for the creation of employment opportunities for more than 65,000 workers. These opportunities extend beyond the mining sector to related industries, regional infrastructure development, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that are part of the bauxite–alumina–aluminium downstreaming ecosystem.
CEO of Danantara Indonesia, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, emphasized that the development of this integrated ecosystem ensures that mineral resources are no longer merely exported as raw commodities, but instead become strategic raw materials that support national industrial transformation.
“Through the Bauxite–Alumina–Aluminium Processing and Refining Facility, we seek to realize an industrial transformation that is capable of driving job creation and supporting national economic growth targets,” Rosan explained.
President Director of MIND ID, Maroef Sjamsoeddin, reaffirmed the MIND ID Group’s commitment to optimizing the responsible management of mineral resources and ensuring that Indonesia’s natural wealth is processed domestically in order to generate positive economic multiplier effects and achieve sustainable growth.
“This project is the work of the nation’s children. It represents the contribution of the MIND ID Group in creating domestic value added, strengthening the economy, and reinforcing national sovereignty for the future civilization of Indonesia,” Maroef concluded.
Therefore, the provision of a stable energy supply is a crucial factor in ensuring the continuity of the bauxite-to-alumina-to-aluminium processing chain, which requires large- scale and continuous energy supply.
President Director of PT Bukit Asam Tbk, Arsal Ismail, emphasized that the Company’s involvement in supporting the energy needs of this national strategic project in Mempawah reflects the synergy among MIND ID Group members in creating domestic value added.
“PTBA is committed to supporting the national downstreaming strategic program through the provision of reliable, efficient, and competitive energy. Energy support for the Integrated Alumina–Aluminium Processing and Refining Facility in Mempawah demonstrates the Company’s seriousness in strengthening the industrial supply chain and national energy resilience, while also accelerating resource-based industrial downstreaming and sustainable economic growth,” he stated.
The availability of energy supply from PTBA not only supports the operational sustainability of the refining facility, but also contributes to investment certainty, enhances the competitiveness of the national aluminium industry, and strengthens Indonesia’s strategic industrial independence. Moreover, the energy supply to be provided by the Company will utilize advanced and environmentally friendly technologies.
Through integrated energy support for the bauxite–alumina–aluminium downstreaming project, PTBA reaffirms its role as a key pillar in realizing national industrial transformation, in line with the President’s Asta Cita agenda to strengthen energy self-sufficiency and domestically based resource industrialization.
