State-owned coal miner PT Bukit Asam Tbk (IDX: PTBA) is targeting higher coal sales in 2026, aiming to reach 49.51 million tonnes, according to company guidance released on Wednesday.

The target marks an increase from realized sales of 45.43 million tonnes in 2025, supported by planned production of 49.55 million tonnes, up from 47.19 million tonnes last year.

Coal transportation volume is projected to rise slightly to 41 million tonnes from 40.44 million tonnes in 2025, while the stripping ratio is expected to improve to 5.63 times from 6.07 times.

PTBA has set capital expenditure at Rp3.64 trillion for 2026, lower than Rp4.55 trillion in 2025, indicating a more selective investment approach.

The company’s production plan remains below its approved 2026 quota of 53.2 million tonnes granted by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources under its Work Plan and Budget (RKAB), leaving room for potential output adjustments.

Indonesia is targeting national coal production of around 600 million tonnes in 2026, down from an estimated 790 million tonnes in 2025, as authorities seek to curb oversupply and support global prices.  The government has recently said it may relax the 2026 coal production quota if prices remain elevated.
