State-owned coal miner PT Bukit Asam (Persero) Tbk (PTBA) plans to start trial production from its Ombilin underground mining in Sawahlunto, West Sumatra in second quarter of 2012 with initial production of 100,000 tonnes of coal, the company said.

Initially the commencement date was planned for early 2011.

PTBA?s corporate secretary, Achmad Sudarto said on Wednesday that PTBA will conduct joint operation with PT Time Surya Energi to develop the mine.

He said that the mine will be able to produce 500,000 tonnes of coal in 2013 and it will be ramped up to 1 million tonnes per annum in 2014.

The mine will produce coal with calorific value of above 7,000 kcal/kg. ?Most likely the coal will be exported,? Sudarto said.

The mine is estimated to have coal resources of 87-100 million tonnes with mineable reserves of around 20 million tonnes.(giok)
