PTBA to start production from underground mine in 2011

Indonesia-listed state coal mining firm PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam TBk (PTBA) said on Monday that its underground coal reserves in Ombilin, West Sumatra, would start commercial operation in early 2011.

PTBA?s operation director Milawarma said that currently the mine is under preparations and it is expected to start initial coal production of around 500,000 tons in the first year. It will be increased to 1.5 million tons in the following year.

The coal will be sold to domestic market, including the cement firm PT Semen Padang and the Ombilin 2x100 MW coal-fired power plant in West Sumatra , he said.

The mine will produce coal with CV of above 7,000 kcal/kg with mineable reserves of around 20 million tonnes.(bernard)
