IDX-listed coal mining firm PT Bukit Asam (Persero) Tbk (PTBA) said on Thursday that it was progressing with its coal-fired power plant projects in Sumatra.
The company reported that its Banjarsari 2x110 MW power plant in Lahat, South Sumatra, will enter commercial operations in the second half of this year. Electricity generated from Banjarsari will be supplied to state electricity firm PLN's transmission line.
PTBA also expects to achieve financial close for its 2x620MW Banko Tengah-also in South Sumatra- this semester , to be followed by construction to achieve commercial operations in three or four years' time.
Earlier reports said that the project will cost around US$ 1.6 billion and PTBA is teaming up with Chinese firm Huadian Corporation.
The company also reported that it was entering final stage of independent feasibility study for its proposed 800-1,200 MW mine-mouth power plant in Pranap, Riau. PTBA said the FS include mining, power plant construction and transmission.
The next stage, according to the company, will be to set up three separate JV companies for mining operations, power plant operations and power transmission to Malaysia.
PTBA and Malaysia state electricity firm Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) had signed a Joint Development Agreement in 2012 to develop Pranap project.
PTBA plans to export most of electricity generated from Pranap to Malaysia through underwater transmission line.
