PTBA with 4 power plant projects in Sumatra

Indonesia-listed state coal miner PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) recently stated that its massive power plant project Banko Tengah 2, with 2x620MW capacity in Tanjung Enim will be realized through a cooperation with China Huadian Group (CHD), which is in accordance to the Letter of Intent signed with the state electricity company PLN signed and released in December 2011.
The Banko Tengah 2 power plant is expected to start operation in 2016, with 5.4 million tons of coal consumption per year supplied by PTBA. A joint venture company is to handle the operation of the power plant which will consume up to US$1.59 billion worth of investment. PTBA will control 45 percent of the stock and CHD will be the majority stock owner.
Other power plant projects include the self utilized power plant, also in Tanjung Enim, which is expected to enter the final stage (commissioning) in the third quarter of this year. The first firing of the first unit of the 3x10MW power plant was initiated in November 2011.
Another 2x8MW power plant project in Tarahan port is now entering the construction stage, expected to start operation in 2013, while its 2x110MW power plant in Lahat, South Sumatra has entered its construction period since July 2011.
"We targeted that the power plant in Lahat to start commercial operation about 33 months after the start of its construction," said Corporate Secretary Hananto Budi Laksono, adding that PTBA will control 59.17 percent of the stock and become the sole coal supplier for the plant. The Lahat power plant is expected to consume up to 1.4 million tons of coal a year.
