Thai oil firm PPTEP reported that thus far it has reached no conclusion over compensation claim filed by the Government of Indonesia (GOI) over Montara oil leakage case.

?With respect to the claim submitted by the Government of Indonesia for compensation for oil leakage caused by Montara incident, PTTEP continues to assess the case with the Indonesian government through the use of scientific evidence to determine the impact (if any),? the company said in quarterly report released on Monday.

GOI is seeking US$2.4 billion in compensation from PTTEP Australasia (PTTEP AA) following the Montara oil spill incident in 2009. GOI claims that fishing grounds in the Timor Sea were polluted and catches fell significantly as a result of the spill, and inshore seaweed fishermen (particularly on the island of Rote) had their livelihoods destroyed.

The Montara well, operated by PTTEP AAl began leaking in August 2009 and spewed oil into the sea for more than 70 days.
