Punj Lloyd?s coal unit seeks mine contractor

Singapore-based firm Sembawang Development Pte Ltd, a unit of Indian engineering and construction firm Punj Lloyd Ltd announced Friday that it is seeking a coal mine contractor to exploit its Central Kalimantan mine.

The company said that the main job of the mine contractor includes removing overburden and hauling coal from pit to river port over a distance of about 42 kilometers.

The company has targeted to produce 1.2 million tonnes of coal next year, which will be ramped up to 3 million tonnes in 2013 and 5 million tonnes in 2014.

In April 2011, Sembawang signed an agreement to acquire a 50 percent stake in a thermal coal mine company in Central Kalimantan

The mining company holds a coal IUP license and is located in Barito Utara regency. The concession has currently estimated resources of 134 million tonnes, while potential in situ reserves are estimated at 57 million tonnes. (denny)
