Purnomo appoints Maizar to represent him at OPEC’s HQs

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro has appointed Maizar Rahman as the Secretary General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to represent the minister at the oil cartel’s headquarters in Vienna, the Harian Ekonomi Neraca newspaper reported in its Friday edition.

This was disclosed by Purnomo in the Ministry’s website on Thursday.

Besides working as minister, Purnomo is also the President as well as the acting Secretary General of the oil cartel. He appointed Maizar to officiate his duties as OPEC‘s Secretary General.

Maizar has been working as OPEC’s governor since the middle of the February 2004. The career of Maizar, who has a doctorate degree in engineering from the Institut Francais du Petrole in Paris, began in oil research agency Lemigas and became head of it during 1998 to 2002.

Maizar was one of the strong candidates for the state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina’s president director‘s post. (*)
