Purnomo: CD programs should not become a burden

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro said that community development carried out by oil and gas producers, and mining companies should not affect their main operations, Neraca reported on Friday.

Speaking at a seminar on the empowerment of the local economy in Jakarta on Thursday, Purnomo said that although the community development was part of the companies? social responsibility, the activities should become a burden for them.

According to the minister, the community development program should be made in line with the companies? financial capability. But he warned that the funds to be allocated for the community development should not be too small.

He also suggested that companies which had carried out their community development program properly should be given a tax reduction facility as part of appreciation for their commitment to participate in the development of the rural area. (*)
