Purnomo says Indonesia has secured overseas LNG cargoes commitment

Thursday, January 29 2004 - 05:56 AM WIB

Minister of Energy and mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro said Thursday that Indonesia had secured commitment of five LNG cargoes from overseas LNG producers as part of the effort to switch some of Arun?s natural gas production to Aceh fertilizer firms while still maintaining Arun NGL?s commitment to South Korean and Japanese buyers.

?The producers have stated commitment to provide the cargoes, but they asked for payment guarantee. Thus far, we haven?t signed any deal,? said Purnomo.

Purnomo did not provide details about the origin of the cargoes.

Declining natural gas supply from ExxonMobil-operated Aceh gas fields had caused the company to cut supply to Aceh fertilizer makers, which need around 150 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.

Thus far, Indonesia has shipped one cargo Oman LNG to South Korean gas distributor Kogas. (godang)
