The operator of a coal-fired power plant in Central Sulawesi has threatened to stop operation within four days if the state electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) refused to respond to its demand for a higher selling price.

PT Pusaka Jaya Palu Power, the operator of the 2 x 15 MW Mpanau power plant said last week, that the company has suffered up to Rp 85 billion losses in the last three years and is seeking to cover the losses through price hike by Rp 149 (1US$ = 9,250) per kilowatt hour (kwh).

President director Wahyuni said the company was also in heavy debts of around Rp 32 billion and was still able to operate up to the end of the week with the remaining coal stock.

PLN's spokesman in Palu Petrus Walasary said he had never heard of the threat and there wasn't any official notice yet sent by Pusaka Jaya Palu Power to PLN. He added that decision to rise buying price is for PLN's headquarters Jakarta to make. (*)
