Qatar and Iran to provide LNG supply for PLN

State electricity company PLN has received an initial commitment to get liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply from Qatar and Iran, the company?s senior official said.

PLN?s senior manager for gas and oil procurement M. Suryadi Maerdjoeki said in Jakarta last week that the commitment was made during a meeting with representatives of the two countries? LNG producers recently.

?A PLN director and representatives of Qatar and Iran LNG had reached an initial agreement. They were ready to provide LNG supply of 500 billion British thermal unit per day (BBTUD),? he said, adding that the agreement would be followed with the signing of a memorandum of understanding after they agreed on the price.

PLN hoped the MoU could be signed this year, Suryadi said, adding that the electricity company was seeking an LNG supply contracts for between 10 and 15 years from the two countries.

At present PLN, in cooperation with state-owned oil, gas firm PT Pertamina, is building a LNG receiving terminal for the distribution of its LNG in Java. (giok)
