Igansius Jonan, President Director of state owned railway firm PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has been offered to become the president director of state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), replacing Nur Pamudji, according to the reports.

Minister of State Enterprises Dahlan Iskan said the appointment of Jonan has been approved by his office and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Chairul Tanjung. But, Jonan has yet to decide whether to accept the offer.

?We are waiting (for him) to decide within one or two weeks,? he said.

Jonan, a former executive of Citibank/Citigroup, was appointed as KAI?s president director in 2009. He is lauded for his success to implement a modern management in the firm and turned the firm into a respected state owned firm. He is on the list of potential figures to become transportation minister in the Jokowi Widodo-Jusuf Kalla cabinet.

It remains unclear why Dahlan wants to replace Nur. Last year, Nur sent a letter to Dahlan, saying he wanted to resign. According to the media, he offered the resignation in protest against the prosecution of several PLN?s executives in North Sumatra by the public attorney?s office on charges of corruption. Nur believed the PLN?s executives did nothing wrong. (*)
