Malaysia's RanhillPower Bhd is keen to acquire power plants in Indonesia to raise its generation capacity to 1,000-megawatts (MW) by 2007, said chairman Tan Sri Abdul Majid Khan as quoted by Bernama on Tuesday.

Following its acquisition of a 25.97% stake in Pakistan-based Laraib Energy Ltd, a plant with a capacity of almost 80MW, he said the firm was now looking at potential partners in Indonesia.

?We are now still exploring and talking with several government and private parties there and hope to see some results soon,? he said after the company AGM in Kuala Lumpur Tuesday.

Besides Indonesia, Ranhill is also exploring opportunities in Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, West Asia and Africa.

?Our objective is to have a power generation capacity of a minimum of 300MW in each country to achieve a total power generation capacity of 1,000MW by 2007,? Abdul Majid pointed out.

The group's main activities are in power generation, transmission and distribution, and services in the manufacturing and electricity sectors.(*)
