Regas seeking Indonesian flag carrier status for West Java FSRU

PT Nusantara Regas, the operator of West Java Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU), is currently requesting the Transportation Ministry to grant an Indonesian flag carrier status for its FSRU planned to be anchored in Jakarta Bay water.
The move is aimed to comply with the government?s cabotage policy, which requires vessels operating in Indonesian waters to carry Indonesian flag.
?The vessel is still in Singapore and being converted (to FSRU). At the same time, we are in the process of registering the vessel so that it will carry Indonesian flag,? Manager for Gas Projects at the state oil and gas company PT Pertamina, Daniel Purba, told Petromindo.com.
Daniel Purba?s comment is also to correct Petromindo.com's earlier report quoting Director General for Oil and Gas Evita H. Legowo that the FSRU was on its way to Jakarta bay.
His statement means that the FSRU project is running behind schedule. The FSRU was supposed to arrive in late January and to undergo a planned testing after arrival.
Daniel however expressed his hope that the FSRU would still commence operation in early April this year as scheduled.
PT Nusantara Regas is a joint venture between PT Pertamina and state-owned gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk. The FSRU vessel, the first in Indonesia, is being converted from an oil tanker vessel by Golar LNG Energy Limited of Norway at a shipyard in Singapore.
The FSRU was designed to deliver up to 500 million standard cubic feet per day of regasified LNG to Nusantara Regas? downstream pipeline.
